Theatercombinat opens the public performance school from October 2021 to October 2025 for amateurs and professionals aged 20 to 85, providing a practice-based curriculum that imparts fundamental methods of artistic work by Claudia Bosse.

Public performance school is an environment for learning performative practice, where experimenting with different forms of knowledge and bodily practice is at the forefront.

Public performance school creates space for understanding and communicating diverse perspectives on the present through bodily experiences of various generations. Participants explore spaces, sounds, texts, and their bodies using performance techniques, training, or scores – as a choral organism in landscapes or at various locations.

Public performance school provides an intergenerational space for interested amateurs, as well as artists and activists, fostering the opportunity for collaboration in an ensemble with people from diverse backgrounds. Participants aged between 15 and 90 years learn performative techniques together, challenging and empowering each other through mutual support.

Public performance school tests concrete utopias in shared spaces, community structures, the perception of one’s own body, choreographic modules, and targeted work with breath and voice in settings that span choreography, performance, theater, and urban intervention.

Public performance school facilitates a continuous and committed gathering of a community over four years (across six weekends each year), along with in-depth rehearsals during the creation of emerging performances.

Public performance school promotes conscious awareness of our environment and society, alongside its diverse participants and even non-human beings.

Public performance school, initiated and led by the artist/choreographer
Claudia Bosse, is expanded by participating international artists and experts involved in the works emerging within the framework of the four-year project ORGAN/ism – Poetics of Relations.

During a period of four years, six modules will be deepened annually, featuring performative experiments and choral constellations under the artistic direction of Claudia Bosse. Movement, sound, text, and experiences are woven into the fabric of collective learning. Embracing the risk of relationships in and with various internal and external spaces, as well as diverse landscapes, the continuity of the public performance school creates a foundation for engaging with a collective body of a choral organism. The experiences and knowledge of individuals, combined with artistic techniques, open a new societal space of possibilities. The intergenerational ensemble will become part of the general intellect of Theatercombinat and simultaneously serve as a laboratory for various bodies and experiences.

for HAUNTED LANDSCAPE on an unseen wasteland Claudia Bosse transformed a barren space into an urban laboratory in 2024, gradually altering it over several weeks. In early September, she and participants of the Public Performance School (PPS) performatively took over the terrain for 10 days. Three evenings featured performative interventions presented at dusk with live sounds by musician Katharina Ernst.

in cooperation with the vienna architecture summer school

with BETON WUNDER, the artist and choreographer claudia Bosse, together with the participants of PPS extended, develops a performance of various formations and structures on the concrete surfaces of the former university of economics.

Performative organisms emerge among the bodies involved, the architectural structure, and the pioneer plants, which find their way through the sealed ground.
The performance is a walkable collective practice as an invocation of „other“ spaces followed by a concert with live electronics by günther auer.

the public performance school works continuously and continues its collaboration with amateurs who have been involved in theatercombinat’s projects for years. as part of the multi-year initiative ORGAN/ism–poetics of relations, the applied performative practice and ongoing work culminate each year in productions that engage with the motifs

2022: lung, 2023: liver, 2024: heart, 2025: proliferation

The respective “organ motif” is examined in terms of its specific function in relation to the human organism as well as in relation to non-human organisms. The particular characteristics and functions serve as material for exploring how performative structures can operate together, what kinds of dependencies they may form, and what connections they might have to other organs or parts of an organism.
