ORGAN/ismus – poetik der relationen
for WASTEland artist claudia bosse is working under the open sky, exposed to climatic and urban conditions in a space between possibility and decay on an unprotected area of 2500m2.
a performance of rituals that have grown out of the space and measurements applied to it, as a gradually emerging new landscape on rubble, on traces of what has been and what is to come – with its cooperations, conflicts, coexistences.
WASTEland weaves an affective, porous space that spins stories through multiple attentions, scratching off layer by layer, revealing connections and measuring, folding and unfolding everyday narratives, mythologies and cosmologies. from the perspective of the wasteland, which claudia bosse temporarily declares an art space, one looks out onto the city, onto the world of which the unused area is in turn a part.
amidst proliferating and animated changes on this wasteland, amidst a climate catastrophe and dying species, the city becomes a resonating body for performative rituals, speculative choreographies and poetic resistance.
WASTEland is part of the series haunted landscape/s, which deals with our planet, how we understand it and how we live as part of it. it deals with massive transformations of environments and their global effects. following HAUNTED LANDSCAPE on an unseen wasteland in september 2024, monthly artistic interventions have been recurring on the wasteland behind the main station in vienna’s 10th district with WASTELAND dream/s – a chronicle on choreographic ground since march 2025. WASTEland combines these performative rituals going through the seasons in a large-scale choreography.

choreographic field work part II
14.-18. april 2025
regen, viel wind. neue blüten färben das areal. das wetter als bedingung für ortsbezogene choreografie. vermessen des unebenen grundes mit gliedmaßen, die ausgreifen in den raum, bis hin zu den umgebenden bauten. oder vermessen mit einem blauen stoffobjekt, das mit hilfe zweier körper den raum zerteilt, sich faltet oder um die körper schmiegt. ephemere strukturen und skulpturen aus körpern – textilen und menschlichen – als kontrapunkte zu den rechtwinkligen bauten.
durch die bilder gewaltsam zerstörter infrastrukturen, zum beispiel in gaza, täglich konfrontiert mit dem wahnsinn der vernichtung. bewegungsstudien als imagination gewaltsamer zerstörung im urbanen raum von wien. was wäre, wenn die bauten um diesen platz bombardiert würden, wenn sie explodieren oder zusammenfallen würden?
bewegungen als eine annäherung an die langfristigen folgen – neben dem horizontalen vermessen der verschiedenen zonen bis in die zwischenräume der häuser eine annäherung an mögliche vertikale kosmologien, vom erdinneren über die gräser bis in die atmosphäre.
ein ritual zum frühlingsbeginn
am 21. märz um 17:30h
erstmals öffneten wir unsere choreographic field work und begrüßten den frühling mit den insekten, die noch im boden schliefen, den vögeln, die bald singen werden, und den granatapfelkernen, die wir teilten.
um die jahreszeiten anzunehmen, übergaben wir dem raum blumen und milch, verabschiedeten den winter mit feuer, tranken wein, lauschten den klängen und veröffentlichten unsere publikation.

mit choreografischen vermessungen nähern wir uns dem bewachsenen grund. was bedeutet körperliche präsenz auf dem 2500 m2 grossen areal? wie kann sie bis an die haut der häuser reichen? wie sind die rhythmen der bewegten körper im urbanen raum und welche resonanz haben die geräusche der stadt im körper und welche bewegungen können sie initiieren? welche bewegungen können aus den gewachsenen strukturen der unterschiedlichen pflanzen entstehen und wie lassen sich diese in den raum übertragen? wie treffen organische (bewegungs)strukturen auf die brachiale orientierung der linie durch den raum? schafft die ergangene linie (bewegungs)linie zeit im raum?
die gesten der orientierung als verhältnisse zu den vertikalen strukturen vom untergrund über die gebauten strukturen bis in den himmel. die schritte auf dem aufblühenden blauen ehrenpreis. zum frühlingsritual ein erster weißer falter.

Wasteland dreams und WASTEland sind teil der serie haunted landscapes. eine produktion von theatercombinat. gefördert im rahmen der konzeptförderung von theatercombinat 2022-2025 von stadt wien kultur und vom bundesministerium für kunst, kultur, öffentlicher dienst und sport. in kooperation mit der ÖBB und dem belvedere 21. WASTEland wird präsentiert in kooperation mit dem tanzquartier wien, dank an liquifer systems group.

haunted landscape/s ist eine mehrformatige serie von claudia bosse (2024/2025) in zusammenarbeit mit verschiedenen künstler*innen mit/über/durch verwundete landschaften.
WASTELAND dream/s – a chronicle on choreographic ground ist teil davon. in HAUNTED LANDSCAPES or the breathing out of earth besetzte claudia bosse ende oktober 2024 die bühne des tanzquartier wien als begehbares, performatives environment, gemeinsam mit verschiedenen materialien, 5 performer*innen und den klängen von günther auer. in HAUNTED LANDSCAPE on an unseen wasteland wurde eine zentrale restfläche zum urbanen labor und austragungsort einer serie von bildnerischen, musikalischen und performativen interventionen von claudia bosse mit der public performance school PPS sowie eingeladenen künstler*innen. in dem field research projekt haunted landscape/s – about inner and outer landscapes im rahmen von impulstanz hat claudia bosse mit den teilnehmenden tänzer*innen relationen zu landschaften, organismen und bewegungen auf instabilem grund erforscht. claudia bosses mit dem wald verwebte installation entanglement with a haunted forest eröffnete im juni 2024 das mahler forum 2024 mit einem musikalischen kommentar von günther auer. zwischen gebautem, gewachsenem, gegenwärtigem und gewesenem ist die installation im wald noch bis ende oktober frei zugänglich. haunted landscape/s wurde als ortsspezifische performance mit 3 tänzerinnen und 2 bewegungschören im mai 2024 für ein brachliegendes baufeld entwickelt und endete schließlich in einer multimedialen installation. im oktober 2023 entwickelte claudia bosse LANDSCAPE/S im rahmen des projekts celebrating trouble. choreographic convention in timișoara (rumänien) – eine lecture performance als installative ausbreitung, die zu einer performativen landschaft wurde.
die serie haunted landscape/s entstand im rahmen der konzeptförderung 2022-2025 von stadt wien kultur, vom bundesministerium für kunst und kultur, öffentlicher dienst und sport, mit der unterstützung von bezirk donaustadt, mahler forum 2024, KÖR Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Wien und in kooperation mit belvedere 21, impulstanz, jugend am werk, wien 3420 und ÖBB.
der zyklus ORGAN/ismus – poetik der relationen verknüpft module, motive und methoden zur umsetzung verschiedener künstlerischer formate und will zugleich strukturen aufbauen oder ausbauen. denn wir können nur die arbeiten verwirklichen, für die wir in der lage sind strukturen zu finden oder zu erfinden.
PROJECTS of haunted landscape/s:
haunted landscape/s is a multi-format series by claudia bosse (2024/2025) in collaboration with various artists with/about/through wounded landscapes.
HAUNTED LANDSCAPES or the breathing out of earth occupies the stage of tanzquartier wien at the end of october 2024 as a walk-in, performative environment with 5 performers and the sounds of günther auer. In HAUNTED LANDSCAPE on an unseen wasteland, a central residual area becomes an urban laboratory and venue for a series of visual, musical and performative interventions by claudia bosse with public performance school PPS and invited artists. in the field research project haunted landscape/s – about inner and outer landscapes as part of impulstanz, claudia bosse and the participating dancers explored relationships to landscapes, organisms and movements on unstable ground. claudia bosse’s installation entanglement with a haunted forest interwoven with the forest opened mahler forum 2024 in june 2024 with a musical commentary by günther auer. between the built, the grown, the present and the past, the installation in the forest is freely accessible until the end of october. haunted landscape/s was developed as a site-specific performance with 3 dancers and 2 movement choirs in may 2024 for a derelict building site and ultimately ended in a multimedia installation. in october 2023, claudia bosse developed LANDSCAPE/S as part of the project celebrating trouble. choreographic convention in timișoara (romania) – a lecture performance as an installative spread that became a performative landscape.
the haunted landscape/s series was created as part of the 2022-2025 concept funding programme by stadt wien kultur, the federal ministry of arts and culture, public service and sport, with the support of the district of donaustadt, mahler forum 2024, KÖR Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Wien and in cooperation with belvedere 21, impulstanz, jugend am werk, wien 3420 and ÖBB.
the cycle ORGAN/ismus – poetics of relations combines modules, motives and methods for the realization of different artistic formats and at the same time wants to build or expand structures. because we can only realize those works for which we are able to find or invent structures.
